My job
This role involves working 40 hours per week, 5 days out of 7 (6 when required). A driving licence is required.
* Gain a full understanding of poultry in MP.
* Contribute to the department and develop relevant skills in line with MP competency framework.
* Actively seek to reduce negative environmental impacts, such as waste reduction and recycling.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date records related to birds, food, supplies, etc.
* Assist in operations like vaccinating, bird weighing, catching, and collection to ensure smooth processing and customer satisfaction.
* Achieve a minimum NVQ Level 2 qualification.
* Take responsibility for self-development and training in stockmanship, in conjunction with the Farm/Area Management team.
* Maintain communication with farms and area management.
* Uphold professional integrity and appearance of the farm at all times.
* Prioritize bird welfare above all.
* Maintain high standards of housekeeping, keeping the farm clean and tidy, roads free of litter, and grass well maintained to portray a positive company image and reduce vermin risk.
* Monitor ventilation, heating, feed, water, and lighting to ensure optimal conditions without compromising welfare.
* Ensure procedures comply with company specifications, with safe chemical use and hygiene standards. Report any shortfalls immediately.
* Understand and operate farm equipment, liaising with the Farm Manager to address faults and perform minor repairs safely.
* Adhere to health and safety policies to prevent injuries to self, colleagues, or visitors.
* Recommend improvements to methods or operations to enhance efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
* A company vehicle is provided; complete weekly mileage and defect sheets promptly.
