This role will focus on exploringsynergistic interaction across multiple actors and stakeholders to deliver lean energy solutions at city scale, and beyond, providing a pathway to sustainable, responsibleand renewable consumption practices.
Working with the Co-Directors, theResearch Associatewillbe responsible forthedelivery of key technological developmentsand research,leading project teams and undertakingday-to-day project managementand researchactivities,including ensuring relevant attention to health and safety and ethics,anddelivery of the Centre’s translational plans. Youwill play a pivotal role in ensuring that the Centre’s activities are coordinated and managed in an effective and productive way, aligning these with the overall strategy andobjectivesof theCentre.
In collaboration with the Director, Co-Directors and Centre Manager, you will undertake research and project management to meet the aims and objectives of the Centre. Your other responsibilities will include:
1. You will plan research, undertake and coordinate research relevant to sustainable technologies and its implementation in urban environments.
2. You will monitor the research plan and translational activity delivery, including coordinating updates from others for the delivery of high-quality research and translational outcomes.
3. You will be responsible for day-to-day project management of specific Centre research activities and leading teamwork, including ensuring adherence to relevant health and safety and ethics requirements.
4. You will lead and contribute to writing reports for submission to research sponsors, presenting findings to colleagues and at conferences and submitting publications to refereed journals.
5. You will provide guidance to other staff and students, attend relevant workshops and conferences as necessary (with some overseas travel, principally China), promote the reputation of the Group, the School and the University and provide guidance to PhD Students.
6. You will contribute to the smooth running of the Group's laboratories and, facilities with other scientists, clinicians, technicians and students within the laboratories and assist in the supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate research students and research assistants as required.
The ideal Candidate will be flexible, proactive and have the ability to work in a fast-paced research environment. You will have the ability to consider both short- and long-term process improvements and to ensure progress and completion of research deliverables.
Key to this role are:
7. A PhD in Design Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience
8. Practical experience within a research environment and / or publication in relevant and refereed journals
9. Practical experience in a broad range of techniques, including engineering design, data analysis, mathematical modelling and others
10. Practical experience within a research environment and / or publication in relevant and refereed journals
11. Knowledge of design engineering, mechanical, chemical and/or electrical engineering
12. Knowledge of research methods and statistical procedures
