Job overview
The post holder will provide support to the scientific and medical staff of the department. The main duties of the role are to:
Undertake laboratory-based work including the analysis of samples using various technologies. This may be located in any of the department’s sections.
Perform sample reception duties including the receipt, barcode labelling and preparation of samples for analysis.
Perform clerical tasks including data input of patient demographics and test request information.
Perform general housekeeping duties including maintaining stock levels, general cleaning and waste disposal.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
This varied role involves rotation within all routine areas of Cellular Pathology, including Embedding, Microtomy, Dissection scribe, Specimen Reception and Immunohistochemistry, so previous knowledge of these areas would be advantageous. Keyboard skills are a requirement for this post, as is the ability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity. The ability to work well in a team and be able to communicate effectively with others is of paramount importance. In this support role there is also a requirement for an amount of manual handling.

Qualifications
* GCSE grade C or above English, Maths and a Science subject
* NVQ level 3 in Clinical Laboratory Support or equivalent, e.g. 2 science A levels or above
Experience
* Previous practical laboratory experience in a Histopathology or similar environment
Planning and organisation skills
* Is able to perform work with minimum supervision
