Croydon Shire Council is seeking a qualified and experienced Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Advisor to join our team on a full-time basis. This important role is responsible for providing professional advice, guidance, and support to help ensure a safe and compliant working environment across all areas of Council operations.

The Workplace Health and Safety Advisor supports Council by ensuring compliance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (QLD) and associated legislation, codes of practice, and internal procedures.
Working collaboratively with directors, managers, and staff, this role provides expert advice in areas such as risk management, incident reporting and investigation, inductions, training, and overall WHS compliance. The successful candidate will contribute to the ongoing development of Council’s safety culture through coaching, systems improvement, and proactive safety practices.
Key Responsibilities
Assist Council in meeting its WHS obligations under current legislation
Provide advice and support in WHS matters across all departments
Guide risk assessments, incident investigations, and control strategies
Support and deliver WHS training, inductions, and safety initiatives
Assist with WHS reporting, audits, and compliance documentation
Contribute to the development of health and safety programs and procedures
Build WHS capability through coaching and support for managers and staff
Skills & Experience Required
Certificate IV or Diploma in Work Health and Safety (or equivalent experience)
Demonstrated experience in a dedicated WHS role, preferably in local government
Accreditation in Drug and Alcohol Testing (preferred)
Current First Aid and CPR qualifications
Ability to obtain and maintain a Working with Children Blue Card
Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Confident in providing practical, solutions-based safety advice
High attention to detail and a proactive approach to risk management
