Supporting Young People towards Independence

Service Manager for Young Peoples Services (Supported Accommodation)

Based in Northampton.

This is a permanent role.We are ideally looking for a full time manager however we may consider two part time roles

The role is required to work 20 hours per week (part time) however this may be negotiable for the right candidate or 40 hours full time.

Participation in the 'on call' rota covering evenings, nights and weekends 1 in every 3 weeks.

£36,000 - £38,000 per annum (or pro rata) depending on experience and qualifications rising by £2,000 per annum after 12 months, subject to satisfactory performance.

We are seeking to recruit 1 or 2 enthusiastic, Service Managers to join our existing committed team of support workers from a range of professional and relevant working backgrounds.

This is an exciting and rewarding role, and you will be instrumental in making a real difference to the lives of the young people we support. This role plays a crucial part in building trusting relationships to lead the service and our professional and friendly support team, while also providing enhanced opportunities for disadvantaged young people. As a small company, it is expected that managerial posts potentially participate in any of the roles within the company from time to time, as per service needs.

You must have a warm and friendly disposition with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will be confident, motivated and flexible, and be able to show initiative.

You will report to the Director / Professional Lead and will receive regular supervision, training and development opportunities. You'll be working with, and supported by, an excellent team of loyal staff who are committed to providing high quality support, enriching young people's lives.

What we do:

We provide quality support and housing services, to young people who are Care Leavers or Looked After Children over 16, though referrals may be accepted from other teams too. Our service users may have low, medium or high support needs.

Our aim is to help these young people to gain the life skills they need to build the foundations for independent living. We do this across nine single occupancy flats which provide a safe place for young people to live, learn and make the transition to independent adulthood. We also provide support out in the community, often in the young people's own tenancies once transitioned, to maximise their chances of succeeding in maintaining these.

We focus on young people's strengths, building positive support networks to achieve their aspirations, whether that is returning to education, finding meaningful work, managing their home and finances, or making new relationships.

Our team focus on respect, providing support and empathy, and accepting each young person as a unique individual. The needs of the individual lie at the heart of everything we do.

The role of the Registered Service Manager will include:

* Overseeing the overall delivery of the service, through the management of the staff team and liaison with the Director / Professional Lead.
* Coordinating and supporting staff to perform their roles safely, to assist them to ensure effective physical and emotional support of the service users.
* Working flexibly to provide enhanced support for the young people within their home units and out in the community.
* Accountable for the effective management and supervision of the staff and for staff training and development.
* Ensuring quality standards are continually met and improved, and that outcomes are recorded and measured effectively.
* Maximise quality standards, ethical standards, equality and diversity, policies and procedures ensuring compliance with legal, contractual and inspection framework requirements.
* Manage the referral process and the transition of service users in and out of the service.
* Develop and maintain relationships with clients, partners and external agencies.
* Assist with budget setting and monitoring, particularly of staff and resource costs.
* Ensuring health, safety and security compliance at all times.
* Responsible for monitoring and oversight of personalised support package planning.
* Responsible for risk management procedures and assessments.
* Maintain safeguarding processes at all times and for creating and sustaining environment and culture of safety and trust amongst staff and service users.
* Participate in the on-call rota to maintain operational and safety requirements.

About you – the right candidate:

The successful applicant will play a key role in supporting and managing a team of support workers. Ideally you will have previous experience as a Registered Manager (CQC, Ofsted) and will need to demonstrate experience in the following areas:

* Experience working within a social care or residential care setting, working with children and young people or vulnerable people (Registered Manager experience - desirable).
* Management and supervisory experience (minimum of 2 years desirable).
* Have an awareness of complex needs.
* Experience of facilitating, organising and developing teams.
* Excellent organisation and planning skills.
* Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
* Have the passion and drive to improve the lives of young people, often in their most difficult times.
* Be empathetic and able to engage service users, while maintaining boundaries.
* Willingness to be flexible.
* Be resilient, hard-working and honest.
* Hold a full UK Driving licence.

Role Summary

This is a key role with significant responsibility and confidentiality. This is an operational role and the post holder will show judgement and initiative at a level commensurate with this position.

Reporting and liaising with the Director/Professional Lead, you will be responsible for delivery of the support service, as well as the day to day management of support staff within the team.

You will build on the well-established principles and practice standards existing within Moving On Up and proactively contribute to the continuous improvement of our practice standards.

You will ensure a consistently high standard of service in accordance with legal, contractual and framework requirements, policies and procedures of the company.

You will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team and be the key person that oversees referrals into the service, liaising with the Director/Professional Lead, the Local Authority, staff team and the young person in planning for their time within the service and for preparing their transition when they leave.

You will work closely with the support team and provide supervision for the professionally qualified staff and non-qualified support staff.

You will lead the staff team in ensuring the service delivers exceptional support that meets the needs of the service users in a relevant and meaningful way. That is revised and or tailored to meet changing needs and that delivers positive outcomes for the young people.

You will be required to carry out a range of duties within your role. The key responsibilities are detailed below but there will be other duties consistent with the role that you may be requested to undertake by your line manager.

* Ensure effective management of staff sickness and absence.
* Promote culture of continuous professional development, where learning and development is closely linked to individual, team and organisational priorities.
* Identify staff training and development needs in a timely manner and set targets of a high standard and relevance, playing a key role in securing continuous improvement.
* Ensure at all times that professional ethics and behaviour are demonstrated by all staff and that staff are supported and coached in actively engaging with young people.

Leadership:

* To provide operational management of the staff team and deploy appropriate staff resources ensuring that key tasks are fulfilled.
* To maintain a presence within the local community, representing Moving On Up at external events, meetings and reviews as required.
