About the role - you will:
Leveraging our high-tech wafer fabrication facility in Derry UK, with state-of-the-art manufacturing processes and design tools, you will be part of the research and development team responsible for Seagate’s future HDD products. You’ll work closely with global development teams and product/design engineers to build, test, and characterize nano-scale devices based on 2D materials. Your focus will be on advanced metrology techniques for 2D devices.
You will:
As a key player in 2D materials advanced metrology, you will drive innovation in nano-scale head devices, ensuring device performance, reliability, yield and sigmas. Your expertise will shape next-generation storage technology through:
• Identifying, developing and implementing advanced metrology techniques to meet evolving performance targets.
• Leveraging advanced modelling, defect analysis, and statistical tools to drive improvements in 2D materials growth, transfer and device patterning at 200mm wafer scale.
• Leading innovation projects focused on performance and yield enhancements.
• Collaborating with metrology vendors to define, test, and integrate next-generation metrology tooling aligned with future product roadmaps.
• Collaborating with process and design engineers to drive continuous improvement using advanced metrology techniques.
• Managing experiments, projects, and wafer tracking to ensure timely and impactful results.
• Supporting technology transfers to the product development engineering team.
• Contributing to Seagate’s intellectual property portfolio, including invention disclosures, patents, and peer-reviewed publications.
About you:

Your experience includes:
• Your educational background should be in physics, electrical engineering, materials science, or a related field:
• Graduated with PhD within the last 24mths or within the next 6mths.
• A solid physics background in metrology techniques related to 2D materials such as - Raman Spectroscopy, Terahertz Time-Domain Spectroscopy, PPMS Platforms, XRD, Nanoscale infrared spectroscopy and imaging.
• Detailed knowledge of metrology and inspection techniques for 2D materials. With particular focus on interactions and interfaces between metals/dielectrics and 2D materials.
• Expertise in identifying and characterizing defects and contamination in 2D materials, especially those arising from growth, transfer, and patterning/contact processes.
• Hands-on operation of advanced metrology, and a deep understanding of measurement variables, data analysis and interpretation.
