About the job
Kent is looking for a Principal Onshore Pipeline Engineer who will be responsible for leading the production of engineering deliverables and providing progress reporting for a project in accordance with the project plan. Typically, works as a Lead Pipeline engineer reporting to the Engineering Manager on a feasibility, concept, FEED, detailed design or EPC project. Supervising and checking the work of other engineers. Responsible for communicating technical / project issues potentially impacting the project to the Engineering and Project Manager.
The Principal Onshore Pipeline Engineer is typically accountable to the Engineering Manager and/or Project Manager, depending on size and complexity of the Project. Corporate reporting line is to respective Departmental / Group Manager. You will form part of a new Pipelines Delivery team to work closely and collaboratively with Kent’s existing Subsea and Pipelines Centre of Excellence to deliver and execute onshore and offshore pipeline projects.

The UK Engineering group will support a variety of opportunities in Low Carbon / Energy Transition (CCUS, Green Hydrogen, Blue Hydrogen, Offshore Wind, Waste to X, Emissions Reduction) as well as responsibly developing traditional international energy projects. Being hands-on, collaborative (including international workshare and teamworking) and committed to a long-term career within a high performing and close team are key qualities we seek.
We follow a hybrid working model that combines office and remote work, with a requirement to be in the Woking office four days a week to support a strong team dynamic within Engineering.
Skills & Responsibilities
* Technically responsible for pipeline scope and allocating, supervising and directing the preparation of project deliverables. Depending on project size, delegate supervision and checking activities to appropriate personnel.
* Lead a team to deliver Pipeline FEED studies; supervise, review and check activities including philosophies, specifications, routing studies, mechanical design, material selection, corrosion protection, stress analysis, layouts, drawings, datasheets and technical requisitions & bid evaluations.
* Prepare the Pipelines Deliverables Register and allocate tasks across the pipelines project team. Plan/schedule engineering activities and resources. Quantify deliverables, resource-hour allocation and delivery format, and provide regular project controls / reporting input to Project Management.
* Supervise and check the work of other engineers.
* Identify and resolve discrepancies from original proposal/contract under supervision of the lead/principal engineer.
* Contribute to proposals and tenders, including reviewing ITB documents, preparing resource hour estimates and writing technical proposals.
* Ensure compliance with Kent’s ISO-accredited QMS and project-specific procedures, guides and standards.
* In consultation with allocated Group Manager and/or Pipelines TA/SME, identify development needs and ensure agreed goals are met in light of project commitments.
Your knowledge, skills, education and experience
* Typically holds a Master’s Engineering degree (honours or equivalent) in Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Naval Architecture or a similar discipline.
* Chartered status preferred.
* Exposure to FEED / detailed design and EPC projects.
* Experience with engineering client organizations in the onshore/offshore oil and gas industry.
* Understanding of fundamentals of subsea and pipeline engineering, and regulatory frameworks, codes and standards.
* Experience in design and analysis of CO2 and H2 onshore and offshore pipelines in the Low Carbon sector is advantageous.
Communication
* Excellent command of English in written and oral communication and presentation skills.
