We know that recovery can look and feel very different to each and every one of us. But we also know that if we provide the right support, at the right time, we can inspire recovery nationwide and that recovery is possible for everyone. Telford STaRS, a partnership between Inclusion, Aquarius and Willowdene, is the first point of contact for anyone experiencing problems related to drug or alcohol use in Telford and Wrekin. The service is free and confidential, serving both children and young people 10 and adults 18. And, right now, we need a flexible individual with a good understanding of the functional model of substance abuse to join our friendly team. Your challenge? To identify and engage with local communities, groups, agencies and individuals to assess alcohol and drug related harms and the need for appropriate interventions, information and training to increase the understanding and reduce the harm related to alcohol and drug misuse. Developing productive working relationships and sustaining arrangements for joint working between workers and specialist and non-specialist agencies will be key, as will promoting people’s equality, diversity and rights throughout the advice, training and interventions offered. You’ll also need the ability to recognise the indications of substance misuse and screen, assess, provide appropriate support and interventions and refer people on as necessary. Well-versed in providing long-term support that’s not time-limited and flexible enough to meet the changing and complex needs of the client group, you’re adept at providing written assessments and keeping records too. What’s more, you’re an energetic self-starter who works well within a team and on your own initiative, have experience of providing training and above all a genuinely sympathetic approach.
