An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, nurse leader to join the SSR division for a 12 month secondment.
The lead nurse reports directly to the Head of Nursing and is responsible for defined clinical area within Forensic Directorate, part of the Secure Services and Recovery Division, within MHLD Service Group. The quality of the Health Boards clinical care and the safety of its patients are fundamental to its excellence and the Lead Nurse is responsible for ensuring the consistent delivery of evidence based, safe and effective nursing care, infection prevention, safeguarding, patient flow and maintaining professional nursing standards within their defined area of responsibility.
The role will provide direct leadership to ward managers, CPNs and physical health nurses within Caswell Clinic to ensure the implementation of the nursing and quality strategy and person-centred approaches to care, to deliver a nursing service that prioritises the care needs of all it patients/service users and their families/carers.
The post holder is expected to work with autonomy to provide highly specialised professional nursing advice to colleagues as part of their role and responsibilities for ensuring the delivery of high quality and safe care. This includes supporting systems for professional revalidation and performance management of those that they are accountable for quality, safe care.
Main duties of the job
The Lead Nurse for Forensic Directorate will join a team of Lead Nurses and Service Manager (also a nurse) who work together to deliver the Professional Nursing agenda across the division as well as more broadly across the MH&LD service group.
The job requires an individual with excellent leadership skills to support the enablement of the multiple elements of the Forensic Directorate - Caswell Clinic, the WJCC commissioned Regional Forensic Medium Secure MH inpatient Service, as well as the physical health team, aftercare service etc..
The Services within the directorate provides a range of evidence-based treatments and therapies which are delivered via a multi-disciplinary team approach in collaboration with patients, families/cares and our key stakeholders (commissioners, partnership agencies and 6 health boards across Wales) the directorate also has a strong working relationship with its sister service in North Wales.
The role will provide direct professional nursing leadership in line with the NMC Code and SBU HB values and behaviour framework of caring for each other, working together and always improving.
This is a Secondment for 12 months due to funding.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential criteria
1. Experience at Band 8a
2. Registered RNMH/RNLD
3. Experience of facilitation, teaching and educating others.
Desirable criteria
4. Leadership qualification/study evidence
5. Educated to or working towards MSc level
6. Experience of leading service improvement/change
