SEMH Teaching Assistant - Secondary School Location: Northampton Via: Tradewind Recruitment Tradewind Recruitment is currently working with a supportive secondary school in Northampton that is seeking a resilient and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their inclusion and pastoral team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and helping them re-engage with learning. In this role, you will support students who may display challenging behaviour, emotional regulation difficulties, anxiety, trauma-related needs or barriers to learning linked to SEMH. You will play a key role in helping pupils feel safe, understood and supported within the school environment. You will work closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral staff to implement behaviour support plans, deliver targeted interventions and maintain a calm, structured and consistent learning environment. The Role Will Involve Providing 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs Supporting emotional regulation, behaviour management and engagement in learning Implementing and following individual behaviour and support plans Using de-escalation strategies to manage challenging behaviour positively Supporting pupils both in and out of the classroom Building strong, trusting relationships with students who may have had negative experiences of education Working collaboratively with teaching and pastoral teams to support pupil progress and wellbeing The Ideal Candidate Will Have previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs Be calm, patient, consistent and resilient Have strong communication and teamwork skills Be confident working in a secondary school setting Be adaptable and proactive in challenging situations Hold (or be willing to obtain) an enhanced DBS on the update service Relevant experience may include work in schools, alternative provision, PRUs, special schools, youth work, care settings or similar environments.
