Medical Examiner

We are looking for 2 General Practitioners or Consultants registered as a medical practitioner for the previous 5 years at the date of application.
Ideal candidates will have
* Extensive experience working within Primary Care and Community Services settings
* Experience and knowledge of the legal and ethical requirements of death reporting, MCCDs, and Coroner referrals
* Interest and/or experience in service development
* Registered to undertake or completed the Medical Examiner Core Modules
Main duties of the job
The post is part of a team of Medical Examiners who scrutinise deaths and support medical colleagues in determining accurate causes of deaths.
Supported by Medical Examiner Officers you will review clinical notes and liaise with next of kin to assess any points of learning and feedback for improvement.
In response to the Shipman Inquiry, the Department of Health established the role of Medical Examiner to verify clinical information on Medical Certificates of Cause of Death, ensure appropriate referrals to the Coroner, and maintain consistency of MCCD content. Medical Examiners are responsible for scrutinising documentation and circumstances arising from the majority of deaths in England and Wales.
About us
The Torbay and South Devon Medical Examiner Service is hosted at Torbay Hospital and is responsible for the scrutiny of all non‑coronial deaths within the Torbay and South Devon locality.
Qualifications
* Medical qualification with the necessary registration
* ME training completed
Experience
* Experience in a community setting
