Job Description
The Opportunity:
As a Consultant Mechanical Engineer in our Eyecare team, you’ll contribute to the design and development of sector-defining products for ophthalmology and optometry.
You’ll be involved throughout the project lifecycle: shaping project proposals, leading and contributing to technical workstreams, and engaging directly with clients. Each project offers the chance to dive into new scientific domains,
hone your project leadership and client relationship skills, and help bring transformative technologies to market.
A perfect opportunity for a recent PhD graduate hoping to step into the world of industry.
Our work addresses real-world challenges in imaging systems, laser technologies, and surgical tools—projects that are scientifically ambitious, commercially valuable, and enhance both patient comfort and clinical efficiency.
Ideal candidate will:
* Bring strong mechanical engineering capability, combining creativity with precision.
* Be motivated to solve problems at a fundamental level.
* Hold a degree in Mechanical Engineering (minimum 2:1 classification).
* Have either a doctoral qualification or equivalent professional engineering experience. Optical experience is desirable but not essential.
We’re seeking intellectually curious, commercially aware mechanical engineers who thrive in collaborative, entrepreneurial environments, so we will look for the following at interview:
* Intellectually versatile – curious, thoughtful, and attuned to nuance.
* Strategic – seeing the bigger picture, anticipating challenges and opportunities, and staying focused on what matters most.
* Entrepreneurial and adaptable, comfortable taking calculated risks and navigating a dynamic business environment.
* Excited about the commercial potential of technology development.
* A self-starter with a strong sense of personal responsibility and the courage and determination to pursue meaningful goals.
* Able to build strong working relationships and collaborate effectively across and within diverse teams.
* Able to lead without formal authority, attracting and energising others around shared initiatives.
* Committed to fostering a respectful and supportive team culture.
Closing date for this application is the 21st of July 2025.
