Job Overview
Provide administrative and creative support to the Group Communications & Engagement team while undertaking a structured apprenticeship in communications and engagement, developing knowledge and practical experience across internal, external, digital and design functions within the Bristol NHS Group.
Eligibility for the apprenticeship:
* Over the age of 16
* Have lived in the UK/EEA for the past 3 years.
* Have the legal right to work and live in the UK for the full duration of the apprenticeship. Visa must allow work and apprenticeship; visas issued solely for educational purposes do not meet the requirements.
* Not currently working towards any other government funded training programme.
* Do not hold a qualification in the same subject at the same level or above that of this apprenticeship.
* Hold GCSE Maths and English at a minimum of Grade C/4 (or equivalent) and be able to evidence this as part of your application.
Main Duties of the Job
The Post-holder Will
* Support the production and delivery of campaigns, events and digital content.
* Provide day‑to‑day administrative assistance to the Communications & Engagement Directorate.
* Learn to write, design and publish materials for staff and public audiences under supervision.
* Contribute to continuous improvement and demonstrate progress through the apprenticeship framework.
In addition to these core responsibilities, the post-holder will contribute to cross‑portfolio activity across media, digital, internal and engagement functions, supporting a flexible and integrated Communications & Engagement service for the Bristol NHS Group.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
1 Administrative and Team Support
* Assist with managing team inboxes and logging requests daily.
* Book meetings, take notes and update action trackers within 24 hours of sessions.
* File and label images and assets on SharePoint each week to support campaigns.
* Maintain contact lists and distribution groups under supervision of the Communications Manager.
2 Content and Campaign Support
* Draft short news items, social media posts and event listings for approval by Band 5 or above within two working days.
* Source images and obtain consents for use in communications.
* Upload approved content to the intranet and schedule social media using Hootsuite weekly.
* Support design work in Canva, ensuring templates and branding are followed.
3 Event and Engagement Support
* Assist in organising staff and community events (e.g. staff awards, campaign launches) by preparing materials, booking rooms and welcoming attendees.
* Set up display stands and equipment (≤ 10 kg) on the day of events.
* Provide calm, empathetic support to attendees, offering simple advice and kindness where communication barriers arise.
* Collect feedback forms and enter data within 48 hours for evaluation.
4 Learning and Development
* Follow the apprenticeship learning plan, completing modules and portfolio evidence on schedule.
* Shadow colleagues across digital, design, media and engagement teams for at least one week each quarter.
* Attend monthly progress reviews with line manager and training provider.
* Maintain a reflective log of learning and projects.
5 Continuous Improvement and Teamwork
* Contribute ideas for enhancing team processes and campaign delivery.
* Demonstrate initiative by identifying and resolving minor issues independently (e.g. broken links, out‑of‑date copy).

Person Specification
Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge & Skills
Essential Criteria
* GCSEs (Grades A–C or 4–9) including English and Maths (A) A‑Levels or equivalent experience
* Eligibility to enrol on a Level 4 Communications or Business Administration apprenticeship
* Some experience of administration or customer service
* Basic knowledge of digital platforms and social media
* Willingness to learn new skills
* Good written and verbal communication skills
* Organisational skills to meet deadlines
* Basic IT literacy (Microsoft 365)
* Attention to detail and accuracy

Desirable Criteria
* Level 3 qualification
* Any experience of creating content for school, college or voluntary projects
