Consultant in Geriatric Medicine with Specialist Interest

The closing date is 06 April 2026

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Geriatrician to join the team at Manchester Royal Infirmary (part of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust). You will be part of the Medicine Division at the MRI which includes the specialties of Respiratory, Ageing and Complex Care, Medical Specialties and Sexual Health.

We would be supportive and open to Geriatrician applicants with specialist knowledge and interest in one of the following specialties: Cardiology, Vascular, Stroke, Acute Medicine, Acute Oncology, and Frailty.

Committed to working with dignity and respect, you will have a broad-based expertise in Geriatric Medicine, General (Internal) Medicine and your relevant specialist interest. You will be joining a team of highly motivated Consultants in Geriatric Medicine and depending on the interest and experience of the successful candidate there will be the opportunity to be involved in other sub-speciality areas of interest.


Main duties of the job

Person Specification


Qualifications and Training

* MB ChB or equivalent
* Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview)
* Applicants who are UK trained must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. Applicants who are non‑UK trained will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
* Experience in Liaison Geriatrics
* MD, PhD or other higher degree


Teaching and Audit

* Experience of Audit
* Teaching of junior medical staff
* Trained Clinical Supervisor
* Teaching of medical students
* Experience of supervision of ST1 level trainees including workplace‑based assessment and MSF
* Trained Educational Supervisor


Academic Achievements and Research

* Publications in recognised Clinical Journals
* Specialist interest in areas complementary to other consultants in the department
* Research projects relating to the specialist area


Interpersonal / Professional Skills

* Organisational skills
* Involvement in service development and/or quality improvement processes
* Publications in recognised Clinical Journals
