Other types of Equipment operations may be part of the position role such as carousels and back-deck equipment. The Trencher/ROV Equipment Supervisor shall have a recognised apprenticeship and experience in managing and leading small teams. Must possess strong Leadership and fault-finding skills and be able to work in small teams.
General:
Trencher/ROV Equipment Supervisor in support of operation, repair, and maintenance of the ROV/Trencher spread – typically consisting of a ROV Handling system (LARS), a Subsea TMS/ ROV and control system/PDU on surface.
ROV Pilot Technician perform their duties in accordance with requirements and are fully aware at all times of the work to be performed, the order of the work to be performed and their individual responsibilities.
In all phases of operations, due consideration shall be given to the safety and occupational health of personnel, the environment, and subcontracted, client and Company assets.
ROV Pilot Technician perform all activities within their sphere of responsibility being carried out in accordance with applicable statutory regulations and or client and Company governing documentation on Health, Safety, Environment, Quality and Security (HSEQS).
Role Specific:
Demonstrate strong managerial and leadership qualities by leading a team of Equipment technicians in the daily subsea and maintenance activities associated with Trenching/ROV equipment.
Lead and Coach Equipment Technicians in fault-finding exercises to attain a successful conclusion by exercising a root cause analysis approach.
Attend applicable Risk Assessments / Safe Job Analysis. Ensure to communicate findings with all team members.
Create the necessary Toolbox Talks – either with active participation and or by members of
the team – are held for any operational, repair or maintenance work.
Control and delegate relevant steps in the current operational task plan ensuring the ROV operations are performed as directed by the Equipment .
Ensure equipment and ROV spreads are in complete working order and in compliance with all technical requirements and are operated and maintained in accordance with User Manuals and Company procedures.
Lead the team in equipment setup and tests according to project requirements during mobilisations.
Inform the Trenching/ROV Superintendent of the general status, technical deviations and problems associated with the Trencher/ROV equipment or operation.
Ensure equipment reporting is performed accurately, expediently and efficiently in accordance with Company procedures – making aware that suspension of operations may be required.
Take the lead initiative and be upfront on the development of matters covering aspects of technical and operational improvements and innovation within the laying industry and on operational facets concerning HSEQS activities in relation to the business of the Company. Ability to read and understand complex electrical and or hydraulic drawings.

Ensuring relevant equipment-related matters are brought to the attention of the ROV Supervisor.
Notify when Company technical documentation is considered as required to be updated, i.e. operation and maintenance manuals, drawings, circuit diagrams, hydraulic schematics, etc. Timely maintain the ROV spread to the highest standards.
Reviewing the manner in which equipment is being operated and reporting any activities which may subject the equipment to damage or create unsafe conditions.
Employ logical fault finding techniques during breakdown situations.
Assisting in commissioning, testing and monitoring of appropriate equipment as required. Adhere to the standardised shift hours for the position on board.
Education and Qualifications:
Apprenticeship Certificate with in one of the following:
Electronics Automations Remote systems Hydraulics Electric
HNC or Equivalent
Personal:
Ability to demonstrate and carry out strong leadership qualities Logical decision making abilities.
Strong man management and people-skills.
Strong written and verbal English communication skills. Ability to work with and lead small teams..
