Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Blood Transfusion Network Lead in South West London pathology (SWLP), to lead and develop the Blood Transfusion Laboratory service across the network which consists of St Georges, Kingston, Croydon, St Helier and Epsom hospitals. The post‑holder will work to ensure the delivery of high‑quality care and continue to meet all key performance and financial targets. While support will be provided, you must have proven experience of managing a large diagnostic Blood Transfusion department, have in‑depth knowledge across a range of Blood Transfusion laboratory procedures and guidelines, excellent people‑management skills and a good understanding of financial principles. Continuous professional development (CPD) will be encouraged.
Responsibilities
* Directly manage the Blood Transfusion laboratories at all sites to ensure a quality service is provided in all areas, ensuring safe compliance with MHRA and UKAS standards, delivery of all KPI’s (including supplier contractors), turnaround times and quality targets.
* Lead Blood Transfusion laboratories with evidence of good technical knowledge, effective budget management and senior HR management experience.
* Act as the accountable Lead for the service across the network, working closely with the Clinical Blood Science (CBS) Site Managers at St Georges, St Helier, Kingston, Croydon and Epsom.
* Focus on harmonising processes across the network while implementing standardised technology and LIMS on all sites.
* Base at St Georges site with an expectation of ongoing presence at all sites; report directly to the CBS General Manager.
Qualifications
Essential
* HCPC registration
* Masters in Biomedical Sciences (or equivalent experience of more than 7 years senior experience)
* Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD)
* Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences
Desirable
* Recognised management qualification (e.g., postgraduate diploma in Management)
Knowledge and Experience
* Significant experience in the practice of Blood Transfusion Laboratory Medicine at a senior level (over 7 years)
* Significant experience managing a Blood Transfusion Laboratory and technical leads
* Ability to carry out staff appraisals
* Experience in staff recruitment and selection
* Experience in handling HR issues
* Experience of pathology quality management systems
* Proven leadership and management experience
* Significant experience in problem solving
* Use of pathology computer systems
* Experience of financial management and procurement

Salary (inner): £72,921 to £83,362 a year (or £61,861 - £70,959 pa inclusive of HCAS)
