Main duties of the job
To act as a pivotal role in supporting our dedicated team of GPs by providing comprehensive care to our patients. Your contributions will encompass a wide spectrum of responsibilities, spanning from administering essential treatments and fostering preventative healthcare measures to conducting thorough screenings and engaging in informative patient education. Your commitment will act as the foundation of our patient-centered approach, ensuring that our community receives the highest standard of care and attention.

St Stephen's is a progressive 13,500 patient, GMS teaching and training practice situated in the heart of Bow, right on the Roman Road Market. We are accessible easily by public transport, we are have an underground carpark if you wish to drive.
Our large practice works with other local practices in a Network to deliver care in Tower Hamlets.

Job Description
Job responsibilities
The Following Are The Core Responsibilities Of The Healthcare Assistant. There May Be, On Occasion, a Requirement To Carry Out Other Tasks; This Will Be Dependent Upon Factors Such As Workload And Staffing Levels:
* Undertake new patient health checks
* Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes
* Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate, recording findings accurately
* Facilitate routine home BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
* Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks in support of the nursing team.
* Support the practice nurse with the management of long term condition patients.
* Support minor surgery and Anti-coag clinics.
* Act as a chaperone, as required
* Administer flu, pneumo, shingle and B12 injections.
* Monthly home visits for disabled and housebound patients.
* Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation by 16:30 PM daily.
* Organise annual equipment calibration.
* Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
* Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance - carry out daily monitoring of fridges
* Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisations IPC policy
* Deliver opportunistic health promotion, where appropriate
In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Healthcare Assistant may be requested to:
* Participate in practice audit as directed by the audit lead
* Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care
* Support and participate in shared learning within the organisation, attending internal MDT, clinical and Nursing meetings

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
* Must be experienced working in the a Primary Care setting essential for a minimum of five years.
* Healthcare qualifications (level 3 or 4) or working towards gaining equivalent level
* Must have working experience using EMIS clinical system
Desirable
* Previous completion of the HCA Care Certificate
* Qualified in Phlebotomy certification
* Worked in the care of LTC patients
Experience
Essential
* Experience of working with professionals from other disciplines
* Experience of working in a healthcare setting
Desirable
* Experience of working in a primary care environment
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
* New patient medicals, including height, weight, BP, pulse
* Administering injections
* Ability to record accurate clinical notes
* Chaperone procedure
* Must have working experience of EMIS clinical system

* Wound care/removal of sutures and staples
* Assisting in Coil fitting
* Experience of administering CSMC - cervical screening
