Subject Matter Expert – Cleaning & Associated Services (Healthcare)
We are seeking a Subject Matter Expert – Cleaning & Associated Services to lead on healthcare cleaning standards, innovation, and continuous improvement across our healthcare portfolio. This is a key strategic role supporting the development and delivery of a national healthcare cleaning strategy, ensuring services are safe, compliant, efficient, and aligned to client and ESG expectations.
You will act as the organisation’s lead authority and trusted advisor on healthcare cleaning practices, standards, and innovation. Working closely with operational leaders, you will help shape service delivery, improve productivity, support mobilisations, and ensure robust compliance across all healthcare contracts. You will also drive the adoption of new cleaning technologies, data-led performance models, and sustainable delivery methods.
Key responsibilities
- Support the development and delivery of the healthcare cleaning strategy across all healthcare contracts.
- Act as the SME on healthcare cleaning standards, including NHS National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness, HTM guidance, and IPC protocols.
- Provide expert input into operational models, bids, and mobilisation plans.
- Drive continuous improvement in cleaning methodologies, productivity, and quality.
- Support the evaluation and implementation of cleaning technologies, automation, robotics, and smart data solutions.
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control, health and safety, and environmental legislation.
- Support ESG commitments, including sustainable supply chain practices and responsible chemical use.
- Work with L&D to support specialist training, certification, and workforce development.
What we’re looking for
- 5+ years’ experience in healthcare cleaning management within FM, NHS, or the cleaning sector.
- Strong knowledge of NHS National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness, IPC, and HTM guidance.
- Proven track record in service excellence, compliance, innovation, and productivity improvement.
- Experience using or implementing workforce management systems, digital solutions, or cleaning technology.
- Strong communication, influencing, and presentation skills.
- Understanding of ESG and sustainability principles within FM and healthcare.
- Relevant qualifications such as BICSc, RSPH, City & Guilds, ISSA, or equivalent would be advantageous.
