As a Senior Rehabilitation Assistant you will provide high quality therapeutic care to STEPS clients in line with their care and rehabilitation plans, whilst supporting the client to be as independent as possible. You will work with and support our inter-disciplinary team of nurses and therapists.

Main duties of the job

Thisis a managerial position, and the Senior Rehabilitation Assistant (SRA) will beresponsible for overseeing the Rehabilitation Assistants (RAs) working on theirfloors under the guidance of the Senior RA Coordinator and Nurse in charge. TheSRA will be a role model to more junior members of the team and lead byexample, coaching RAs to develop their confidence and skills.

TheSRA will also continue to work operationally within our inter-disciplinary teamproviding high-quality holistic care support to STEPS clients, who have complexcare and rehabilitation needs. They will provide support throughout theirrehabilitation journey in a way that is aligned with STEPS values andbehaviours through working as a key member of the inter-disciplinary team.

STEPS Rehabilitation opened in May 2017 by founders,directors (and family) Jules, Toria, and Ray. STEPSdeliver intensive and ongoing rehabilitation for people recovering from braininjury, spinal cord injury, strokes, and complex trauma injuries, enabling themto reach their full potential and to rebuild their lives.

STEPS is a specialist rehabilitation facility, ableto deliver high-quality care from a range of medical and rehabilitationprofessionals. Our purpose-built premises in Sheffield is hometo a 23 bedroom, residential and day rehabilitation facility. STEPS has been designed to feel non-clinical,comfortable, and homely.

We have created a unique environment that enablespeople to access a wide range of therapies, specialist robotic and VRrehabilitation equipment, and medical specialists all under one roof. Thisincludes access to consultants in rehabilitation medicine; spinal injuries,amputations, and pain management.

Job responsibilities

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conducting supervisions and appraisals with a small team of RAs.

Be a champion for the STEPS values and standards in monitoring andactioning issues of poor conduct or behaviour to ensure standards are upheld,including timekeeping, uniform and misconduct, reporting on these asappropriate to the People & Culture team.

Proactively, when needed, provide instruction, support and guidanceto RAs within their roles, acting as a point of escalation when needed.

To ensure the allocation of RAs to residential clients is completedthe morning after handover with guidance from the Nurse on shift.

To work in collaboration with the nursing team to coordinate eachshift

Ensure that the RA team on the floor you are working on are workingin the location they are supposed to be during their shift and completing thetasks they are supposed to be

To undertake individual rehabilitation plans for our clientsproviding suitable feedback via the Nurses to members of theinterdisciplinary team

To prepare and attend IDT meetings when allocated and shareinformation with the IDT regarding clients

To involve clients and carers in the development and delivery ofgoals within the care plan

To provide support and guidance to other members of theinterdisciplinary team

To escalate issues as required following STEPS guidance andoperating procedures for example, in relation to potential safeguardingissues or regarding the conduct of any colleagues

To be compliant with clinical governance requirements operatingwithin STEPS procedures

To be involved in clinical audits

Carrying out all procedures relating to personal care and nutritionof clients

To keep cupboards stacked and tidy with all items needed for clientcare throughout the day and night

To keep client rooms tidy and organised as specified by the client,ensuring it remains set up in the best way possible to allow for maximumindependence

To escalate any feedback from clients and take appropriate action byinforming the Senior RA Coordinator/Nurse on duty or Client LiaisonCoordinator as appropriate

To undertake duties and responsibilities as assigned in the workplan

When on nights, monitor clients sleep and feedback to the NursingTeam for IDT

Regularly check MS Teams and MS Outlook for emails or messages,acknowledging and responding to messages in a timely manner.

Encourage RAs to remain up to date with their emails and ensurethey are aware of any important updates.

Complete and sign the daily and nightly jobs list.

Communicate with those working on the other floor to ensure there isopen communication, especially if there is no Senior RA on duty on thatfloor.

PEOPLE and ORGANISATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

To be responsible for day-to-day workload allocation, interacting with the STEPS team as appropriate.

To be responsible for the management of the RA team with regard to their day to day work but also addressing issues around conduct, capability and sickness.

Identify training and development needs within your allocated team of RAs through daily work, supervision and appraisal, reporting these to the Learning and Support Manager and the People & Culture team.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* NVQ 2 / City & Guilds qualification, completed care certificate or equivalent level of qualification in the provision of personal care/health care worker/rehabilitation.
* First Aid Training


Skills & Attributes

* Confident communicating with people with complex communication needs and able to adapt style accordingly.
* Confidence to effectively and appropriately communicate as a leader to those more junior to ensure compliance and promote a positive working environment
* Excellent written communication skills and experience with client electronic record/note keeping.
* Able to deliver care in a way which is positive, engaging, respectful, and mindful of client dignity always.
* Excellent problem-solving skills
* Able to form key working relationships with colleagues, understand the dynamics of interdisciplinary working


Experience

* 3 years experience working within a rehabilitation or care setting with a year being in a position where you have held more responsibilities, for example as a team leader
* Working with people with complex care needs
* Competent user of a range of IT software packages and ability to learn new systems quickly.
* Experience of working within governance frameworks e.g., clinical systems/data management/complaints untoward incidents
* Demonstrable experience and working knowledge of GDPR, Client Confidentiality, Equality and Diversity, and Safeguarding
* Understanding of CQC Regulations, the Health, and Social Care Act
* Experience of working to clinical procedures and processes
* Experience of people management and associated processes that come with this i.e. conducting supervision, appraisal or other meetings.
* Delivering group rehabilitation sessions / activities
* Delivering basic first aid
* Experience working in the private sector
