SEMH Teacher
Location: Scarborough, North Yorkshire
Contract: Full-Time, Temporary with potential to be permanent

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teacher to join the team of a specialist School in Scarborough, North Yorkshire.
This rewarding opportunity includes responsibility for a small Year 6 class of six pupils, alongside teaching and supporting students across Key Stages 3 and 4. The school caters for young people with a range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, requiring a nurturing, consistent, and engaging approach to learning and behaviour support.
About the Role
As an SEMH Teacher, you will:
* Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons for a small Year 6 class and support learning across Key Stages 3 and 4.
* Create a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
* Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils, promoting emotional regulation, confidence, resilience, and engagement in learning.
* Adapt teaching strategies, resources, and learning activities to meet individual needs, abilities, and EHCP targets.
* Support students with a range of additional needs, barriers to learning, and challenging behaviours using positive and restorative approaches.
* Work closely with teaching assistants, pastoral teams, therapists, and external professionals to ensure pupils receive consistent and effective support.
* Monitor, assess, and track student progress, using assessment information to inform planning and targeted interventions.
* Prepare pupils for successful transitions between key stages and support them in developing independence and life skills.
* Contribute to the wider life of the school, promoting positive outcomes, wellbeing, and personal development for all learners.
The Ideal Teacher
The successful SEMH Teacher, will:
* Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
* Have experience teaching pupils with SEND, SEMH needs, or within alternative provision settings.
* Demonstrate excellent classroom management and behaviour support skills.
* Be patient, resilient, and passionate about supporting vulnerable young people.
* Have a strong understanding of differentiated teaching and inclusive educational practice.
* Be able to build strong professional relationships with pupils, families, colleagues, and external agencies.
* Hold an Enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.
