Schools Data Lead Permanent/ Fixed Term Contract/ Secondment Grade 6 - £52,413 - £64,811 Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review Working 36.5 hours per week Do you want to make a difference to over 200,000 children and young people and their families in Birmingham? In the Children and Families Directorate at Birmingham City Council, we are looking for a bold and ambitious Schools Data Lead to join our Digital, Evidence and Performance Service. This is a pivotal role in our improvement journey, placing data and evidence at the heart of how we design and deliver services that help children and young people thrive. We’re looking for a dynamic and creative data leader to coordinate statutory schools data activities, lead the development of impactful data products, and drive quality assurance and governance across the directorate. About the Role As Schools Data Lead, you will coordinate statutory schools data collection, reporting and quality assurance across the directorate and external partnerships. This includes key datasets such as the School Census, Attainment, and Sufficiency and Capacity Assessments. You will lead the development of user-focused data products to support school improvement, including a new schools dashboard and updated attainment outputs. The role also involves overseeing systems and automation, including the rollout and management of a new schools case management system and integration of schools data into the Children and Families data warehouse. Championing data quality and governance will be central to your work. You’ll engage with schools and settings to ensure robust processes and policies are in place. You’ll also manage and develop a team, including the School Census and Attainment pillars, supporting recruitment, supervision, coaching and professional development. In addition, you’ll represent the service in internal and external meetings, deputising for the Head of Digital, Evidence and Performance when required. About You You’ll be an experienced and passionate advocate for children and young people, with a degree-level qualification or equivalent experience in a similar role. You’ll bring strong leadership and project management skills, with experience managing multidisciplinary teams. You’ll have proven expertise in data quality assurance, governance, and statutory schools data processes. Experience in developing analytical outputs such as dashboards, reports and statistical analysis is essential. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills are key, along with the ability to influence and collaborate across disciplines.
