Job Summary The role is office based (no laboratory works) to assist the Microbiologist in relation to microbiology, contamination control and sterilization within the organization, analyzing, and supporting research or quality assurance efforts to ensure safety, compliance, and innovation in products or processes. The Junior Microbiologist shall work closely with other departments to identify microbial contamination, develop new techniques or products, and contribute to the overall goals of the organization. Duties & Responsibilities Checking, authorising and filing a range of routine documentation which includes sterilisation certificates, validation reports, cleaning documentation, raw material certificates, environmental reports and particle count results. Assisting with internal, external and supplier audits. Assisting with development and maintenance of sterilisation validation protocols for Gamma and EO sterilisation in accordance with ISO 11135, ISO 11137, and other applicable standards. Manage relationships with third-party testing laboratories, including coordination of bioburden testing, sterility testing, and endotoxin analysis. Interpret microbiological test results and prepare reports, justifications, and summaries. Review and approve sterilisation and microbiological test protocols and reports from external labs. Provide input into risk assessments, root cause analysis, and nonconformance investigations related to microbiological and sterilisation issues. Support new product development and design transfer by advising on sterilisation and microbiological standards. Performing environmental monitoring and particle counts when required. Trend and analyse data from environmental monitoring and particle counts. Support the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives in microbiological processes. Required Experience Level 4 qualification or equivalent in microbiology or life sciences, or relevant experience. 2 years’ work experience in a manufacturing environment or test laboratory. Working knowledge of microbiology techniques and/or sterilisation. Good verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills. Car driver Desirable Experience Any qualification relating to life sciences or contamination control. 3 years’ work experience within healthcare (medical devices or pharmaceutical) or food. Able to act on initiative. Location & Working pattern Primary working locations: Keele (IC4/5) & Trentham (E2).
