Deputy Team Manager

We are seeking to recruit a Deputy Team Manager who will provide leadership and effective day‑to‑day management to our Early Intervention in Psychosis Service for clients that experience a First Episode of Psychosis.

Wandsworth Intervention in Psychosis Service offers intensive support to clients who have experienced a first episode of Psychosis and are between the ages of 18‑65 years. Evidence indicates that interventions at this crucial time can have a beneficial impact to the client and family, in many aspects of their lives. Using NICE‑recommended interventions including CBT approaches, family work and intensive support with an outreach ethos, the service offers a positive and recovery‑focused approach.


Main duties of the job

* Demonstrate excellent leadership skills and an understanding of mental health needs.
* Work autonomously and under pressure, and be proficient with information technology with strengths in critical problem solving and advanced decision making.
* Display excellent interpersonal skills.
* Work within an intensive, outreach‑oriented, recovery‑focused service.


Job responsibilities

* Provide managerial and clinical supervision for junior staff within a multi‑disciplinary team.
* Maintain effective communication systems within the team.
* Monitor and control resources within agreed budgets.
* Champion the Trust Recovery and Social Inclusion strategy.
* Assist with introducing, implementing and monitoring the Trusts procedures and policies.
* Participate in recruiting new staff.
* Maintain records and report preparation via RiO.
* Provide clinical supervision on caseloads and ensure adherence to professional codes of conduct.
* Act as professional supervisor to all nurses.


Clinical responsibilities

* Develop a therapeutic team environment for contemporary clinical practices.
* Maintain high standards of nursing practice through role‑modeling and leadership.
* Participate in multi‑disciplinary meetings, safeguarding, and chair meetings where appropriate.
* Collaborate in assessment, formulation, implementation, and evaluation of service users’ treatment and support plans.
* Administer and monitor medications as required.
* Implement clinical nursing strategies based on current nursing research.
* Ensure appropriate after‑care arrangements per Trusts CPA guidelines.
* Deliver care and treatment reflecting the recovery approach and protect privacy, safety, and dignity of service users.
* Adhere to the Mental Health Act, Care Programme Approach, Codes of Professional Conduct, and other legislation.
* Contribute to policy and service development.
* Always adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct or relevant professional code.


Person Specification


Experience

* Demonstrable experience working with people who experience serious ongoing mental health problems.
* Experience working in a multi‑disciplinary team.
* Experience assessing and managing crisis with severe mental illness.
* Experience in a Community Mental Health Team.
* Experience with people who present with challenging behaviour and/or functional and organic mental health problems.
* Experience managing and supervising staff.
* Experience managing and monitoring budgets.


Training and Qualifications

* Registered mental health/learning disability nurse (current NMC registration) or equivalent professional qualification.
* Diploma in psycho‑social interventions, or similar post‑registration qualification relevant to the post.


Skills and Abilities

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to assess clinical situations quickly and use initiative.
* Knowledge of medicines management – storage, administration and monitoring.
* Skills in assessment, care planning and case management.
* Clinical supervision skills.
* Research and audit skills.

£47,951 to £56,863 per annum inclusive of inner London HCAS.
