What You'll Be Doing as a SEMH Teaching Assistant: Supporting primary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, often with challenging behaviour Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver strategies that help children self-regulate and engage with learning Using behaviour de-escalation techniques, visual aids, and sensory tools to create a calm and inclusive learning environment Providing emotional support and acting as a positive role model, helping pupils to build trust and consistency Supporting students during transitions, breaktimes, and high-anxiety moments throughout the day What We're Looking For in a SEMH Teaching Assistant: Essential : Previous experience supporting children with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour (in schools, youth work, PRUs, or similar settings) A calm, nurturing personality with strong behaviour management strategies A deep understanding of trauma-informed practice or restorative approaches (Team Teach or MAPA training is a bonus!)
