Job Summary
The Senior Cashier is a leadership role within our branch, responsible for providing excellent customer service while ensuring the highest standards of compliance, accuracy, and professionalism. This role requires significant experience in currency exchange or financial services, with proven ability to handle high-value transactions, supervise junior staff, and support management in day-to-day branch operations.
Beyond day-to-day operations, this role requires commercial awareness and decision-making to drive business growth and maximise profit. The Senior Cashier will be expected to monitor foreign exchange market trends, advise on competitive pricing and stock strategies, and help drive business growth while maintaining operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service & Leadership
· Lead by example in delivering professional, compliant, and efficient service.
· Supervise and mentor junior cashiers, providing training, guidance, and performance feedback.
· Act as the first escalation point for customer complaints, resolving issues promptly and effectively.
· Manage complex transactions and customer requests with authority and accuracy.
· Ensure weekend teams are adequately supported and motivated to deliver consistently high standards.
Compliance & Risk Management
· Ensure strict adherence to AML, KYC, and company compliance procedures across the team.
· Conduct advanced due diligence checks on higher-risk customers and transactions.
· Use equipment such as counting machines to monitor stock and test for fraudulent notes.
· Ensure all transactions are completed in an efficient manner with high levels of accuracy.
· Complete regular reconciliation of stock throughout the day.
· Communicate with the team on levels of stock supporting customer success team with enquiries.
· Ensure all receipts are kept and stored in correct areas.
· Be responsible for petty cash and keeping a record of this on the till.
· Ensure that financial procedures are carried out and adhered to across the business.
· Support with the buyback process where required following the business' process on this.
· Oversee daily cash handling, reconciliation, and end-of-day balancing with full accountability.
· Support audits and ensure branch compliance with regulatory and financial controls.
· Provide transactional reports to senior management and use data to make informed decisions.
· Complete all training required and directed by management.
Market Awareness & Commercial Growth
· Monitor foreign exchange market trends and competitor activity, advising management on pricing, stock levels, and customer demand.
· Provide insights on customer buying patterns and recommend strategies for improving sales and profitability.
· Promote money transfer services and corporate client solutions, supporting growth and revenue generation.
· Identify upselling opportunities and encourage the team to maximise customer conversions.
Teamwork & Operations
· Ensure stock levels are maintained and adequate to meet customer demand, particularly during weekends and peak trading times.
· Communicate effectively with management and colleagues to ensure smooth branch operations.
· Support rota planning, particularly ensuring weekend coverage.
· Take on additional responsibilities when deputising for the Branch Manager.
Key Holder & Operational Duties
· Responsible for opening and closing the branch in line with company security procedures.
· Hold keys and alarm codes, ensuring secure access to the premises.
· Oversee the security of cash, stock, and branch assets at all times.
· Ensure tills, safes, and strong rooms are managed in accordance with company policies.
· Take full responsibility for branch security in the absence of management.
· Support rota planning, particularly for weekend and holiday cover.
Essential Criteria:
· Experience as a cashier in currency exchange, retail banking, or financial services.
· Proven ability to lead, supervise, and train staff.
· Strong knowledge of foreign exchange market trends and ability to apply insights in practice.
· Demonstrated trustworthiness as a key holder or equivalent security-responsible role.
· Advanced skills in cash handling, reconciliation, and compliance procedures.
· Excellent customer service and communication skills.
· Flexibility to work weekends and adapt to business needs.
Desirable Criteria:
· Experience managing corporate clients or high-net-worth customers.
· Track record of achieving sales growth and income targets.
· Familiarity with money transfer platforms and international remittances
· Bilingual
