Operational Crew Volunteers - Fri / Sat evenings
Do you have some free time on weekends and enjoy interacting with the public? Do you want to make a meaningful contribution to keeping York residents and visitors safe around our waterways? Are you looking to learn some new skills? If so, becoming a member of our volunteer operational crew could be perfect for you!
For the past 10 years, York Rescue Boat has played a pivotal role educating the public about the dangers of water and provides a 24/7 on-call rescue service supporting North Yorkshire Police and Fire Services as well as a nationally deployable Flood Rescue Service Team. Our services were recently recognised with the Kings Coronation Medal – a very proud moment for our volunteers!
We are an independent charity and all of our crew are volunteers. We’re currently hiring for our next annual intake of Operational team members commencing in September, to carry out patrols both on foot and by boat around the River Ouse and Foss.
If you have strong communication skills, are calm under pressure, and can commit to 2 evenings a month on a weekend, we’d love to hear from you. No previous experience is needed as extensive training will be provided.

We’ll be on the water with the rescue boat and our equipment, doing demonstrations to give people an opportunity to learn about the invaluable work we do.
