Senior Health Care Worker

We are looking to recruit enthusiastic, motivated Lead Healthcare Assistants with excellent communication skills to join our forward‑thinking female respiratory ward and offer a high level of clinical support to our patients.


Responsibilities

* Assist in the delivery of care planned and assessed by the Registered Nurses.
* Carry out care and other duties under indirect supervision.
* Supervise junior healthcare assistants and contribute to their training and development.
* Undertake specific extended skills.
* Obtain consent prior to giving care in accordance with Trust policies.
* Competently undertake delegated duties in line with patient care plans.
* Use knowledge and experience to undertake non‑routine duties, making decisions within area of responsibility.
* Carry out a range of limited clinical duties with minimal/no supervision (e.g., blood pressure monitoring, oxygen saturation, glucose monitoring, collection and testing of urine, faecal, sputum, wound swabs).
* Participate in patient assessment and provide holistic care, escalating concerns to other clinical staff as needed.
* Practice safe standards of care following Trust guidelines and be able to concentrate for periods throughout the day with occasional interruptions.
* Deliver clinical care in line with infection prevention and health and safety policies and procedures.
* Maintain the work environment in line with Trust infection control and patient safety policies.
* Foster self‑care and independence with patients.
* Promote health education specific to the clinical area in line with national and local policies.


Qualifications

* Level 3 (SCQF – 6): City and Guilds 3, NVQ 3, BTEC National Diploma or equivalent demonstrable experience.
* Level 2 functional skills in English and mathematics or equivalent.
* Completion of a Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support (maps to the Apprenticeship Standard for Senior Health Care Support Worker).


Knowledge and Experience

* Demonstrable experience of providing care in a healthcare or social setting.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
* Demonstrated time‑management and prioritisation skills.
* Commitment to a caring approach to patients and relatives.
* Experience working in a hospital setting.


Aptitude and Abilities

* Effective and appropriate written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to complete appropriate documentation accurately.
* Awareness of healthcare work and policies and procedures.
