About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Geo-Environmental Engineer to join BakerHicks, supporting the expansion of our Land Quality and Geo-Environmental capability across the UK.
Whether based in London or Motherwell, you will play an important role in strengthening our regional presence. In London, this includes helping establish and grow a team. In Motherwell, you will contribute to the continued development of an expanding capability.
The Team and Projects
1. Work across infrastructure, aviation, nuclear, life sciences and public sector projects
2. Exposure to varied and technically engaging work
3. Part of a wider multidisciplinary business
Key Responsibilities
4. Deliver Geo-Environmental and Ground Engineering outputs across project lifecycles
5. Prepare and review Phase 1 Desk Studies and Conceptual Site Models
6. Prepare and review Phase 2 interpretative reports and risk assessments
7. Undertake ground gas risk assessments in line with BS8485 and CIRIA guidance
8. Prepare Remediation Method Statements
9. Specify and support ground investigations, including laboratory testing
10. Review technical work produced by junior engineers and graduates
11. Support and mentor early-career team members
12. Attend client meetings and site visits
13. Review subcontractor reports for technical quality and compliance
14. Manage project budgets, timelines and delivery expectations
15. Contribute to the development of Geo-Environmental services
Skills and Experience
Essential
16. Experience within a Geo-Environmental or Engineering Consultancy at Engineer or Senior Engineer level
17. Chartered membership (SocEnv, Geological Society, CIWEM or similar)
18. Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Applied Geology or related discipline
19. Experience delivering Phase 1 and Phase 2 reports and risk assessments
20. Strong understanding of ground investigation techniques and sampling methods
21. Familiarity with current UK standards and guidance
22. Commercial awareness including budgets and delivery timelines
23. Strong communication skills
24. Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams
25. Full UK driving licence
Desirable
26. Materials Management Plans
27. Soil classification tools such as HazWasteOnline or WM3
28. Input to fee proposals
29. Sector experience in aviation, infrastructure, nuclear or life sciences
