Offer description

Role Overview

This role is suitable for peri (ST8 equivalent) or post-CCT plastic surgeons. This role will be advertised as a 6‑month post with the aim to recruit for an August 2025 or February 2026 start.

Eligibility

Due to the short‑term nature of the role, the successful candidate must hold a current registration with the GMC at the time of application, whether it be an active licence, ceased licence or a pending application – MFT cannot support GMC Sponsorship for vacancies less than 12 months fixed term. Candidates who do not meet this criterion will not progress to the shortlisting stage.

Please note: MFT is not a right‑to‑work sponsoring organisation for Tier 5. Should a candidate require Tier 5 sponsorship, they must apply through the Academy of Royal Colleges via the MTI Scheme.

Experience and Qualifications

This high‑volume breast microsurgery fellowship is suitable for plastic surgeons towards the end of their training pathway, or those who have recently gained CCT and wish to enhance or refine their experience to the level required to achieve a substantive NHS consultant post in this subspecialty.

Key Responsibilities

* Breast reconstruction theatre sessions.
* Clinics and involvement in teaching and mentoring the specialty registrar grade.
* Co‑ordinate and participate in entering flap data into the UKNFR.
* Involvement in research and audit.

No on‑call commitment with this post.

Benefits

This is one of the highest‑volume microsurgical breast units in the UK and, at present, we have only one fellow in the team, meaning that fellows typically develop a strong log‑book upon completion. Former fellows have achieved substantive NHS consultant appointments following completion of the fellowship. MFT offers an engaging and supportive environment with state‑of‑the‑art facilities and opportunities to lead research that shapes the future of medicine, working alongside experts and improving patient outcomes.
