About the service

The Children’s Integrated Therapies Service (CITS) is a multi-therapies service, embedded in a multi-disciplinary, community children’s team. Centrally based within the Child Development Centre in Hillingdon, with services delivered from settings across the borough. This is a unique role with a split across our primary service and part role within Specialist Resource Provisions in the borough of Hillingdon.

The service is open to all children and young people aged 0-19 with a range of needs. We work with our therapy colleagues and other agency partners to deliver a service which supports and promotes the health and development of children and young people who are experiencing barriers to participation in everyday occupations. These children may experience barriers due to physical disability, social communication challenges or other specific developmental differences.

Pathways within the service ensure that MDT working is integral in the role and provides a whole systems approach for these families, supporting them to tell their story just once.

Responsibilities

* Deliver assessment and therapy in a range of settings and provide comprehensive written clinical reasoning in all documentation, demonstrating confidence and competence in the clinical role.
* Work autonomously across various settings (schools, children’s centres, homes, nurseries and clinics), including safe lone working.
* Demonstrate enthusiasm for working with children and young people; apply statutory assessment knowledge for Education Health and Care Plans (EHC Plans) and SEND guidance to clinical work.
* Develop leadership skills with responsibility for day-to-day operational management of junior staff; monitor and contribute to quality of care and service development.
* Be part of a community team and work with a broad multidisciplinary network, including partner agencies, to support children and families.
* Use evidence-based practice and specialist skills to provide assessments, interventions and clear, goal-focused care plans; autonomous work across community settings with safeguarding of children and young people at all times.
* Coordinate and deliver therapy effectively with proficient caseload management and attuned communication.
* Engage in development and support of the team through supervision, training and guidance, contributing to service development.

Development and opportunities

CNWL OT has a long-established professional structure including an AHP director, Trust-wide Professional Head of OT, borough and specialist Head OTs. The organisation supports research, audit and evidence-based practice with links to local universities.

Band 6 roles are recognised as backbone teams with leadership and managerial tasks within clinical teams. Opportunities include supervising staff, acting as an educator, supporting management and access to training.

Qualifications and expectations

In this role as a member of the Children’s Integrated Therapies Service, you will be expected to be a competent Occupational Therapist who can autonomously deliver evidence-based therapy to children and young people across full age ranges and a variety of needs.
