Our Client, an NI-based leading Building and Civil engineering contractor, is currently seeking to employ an experienced and ambitious Health & Safety Advisor on-site in Edinburgh for a large-scale RC Frame project. Competitive packages are available for the right candidates (£40-45k).
The Health & Safety Advisor reports directly to the SHEQ Director, liaises with the Project Manager and site team, and is responsible for advising on overall compliance with Health & Safety policies and statutory provisions. The Advisor must lead by example, mobilize the team, and ensure the highest health & safety standards are adopted throughout the project.
Principle Duties
1. Conduct regular, formal site audits and inspections as directed in the Safety Management System.
2. Ensure records of statutory inspections are maintained for all activities and plant equipment.
3. Deliver and complete statutory notifications to the Health & Safety Authority and report incidents/accidents, conducting inspector site visits as required.
4. Deliver Health & Safety induction programmes for new employees or contractors.
5. Manage and recommend Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) for the client’s employees.
6. Assist Site Management in compiling cost records and forecasts related to Health & Safety issues.
7. Organize and chair safety meetings for the client and subcontractor personnel.
8. Ensure subcontractor safety statements and method statements are available on site; assess and assist where necessary.
9. Advise and assist Site Management in drafting and communicating Method Statements.
10. Compile, update, and communicate site Emergency Plans.
11. Conduct preliminary accident investigations, statutory notifications, and keep relevant parties updated.
12. Ensure First Aiders are available, supplies are stocked, and certifications are current.
13. Collect information for the Safety File and prepare it for handover to the client at project completion.
Skills/Qualifications
* Health and Safety Certification, Diploma, or Degree is essential (NEBOSH).
* Minimum of 2+ years’ experience in the construction industry.
* Previous experience managing safety on large-scale construction projects.
* Excellent communication, leadership, training, and presentation skills.
