Assistant Accountant Ballymena Vickerstock are recruiting for a proactive Assistant Accountant to support the day-to-day finance operations within a dynamic FMCG business. Working as part of a larger group, this role offers excellent exposure to core accounting processes and the chance to build strong, practical experience. The good bit Salary - Industry competitive Monday to Thursday 8am - 4:30pm, Friday 8am to 3:30pm (39hours per week) - a degree of flexibility will be required to suit business needs) 32 days holiday Enhance pension Sharesave Staff discount Enhance maternity/paternity Your day to day: Reporting to the Financial Accountant the Assistant Accountant will be responsible for assisting with and completing the following duties Key responsibilities Play a key role in producing monthly management accounts, bringing the numbers to life through meaningful variance analysis Support group reporting and gain exposure to intercompany processes and reconciliations Take ownership of balance sheet and bank reconciliations (including multi-currency), ensuring accuracy across the board Provide payroll cover and broaden your experience across finance operations Get involved in budgeting and forecasting, contributing to forward-looking financial planning Partner with operational teams to understand manufacturing performance and cost drivers Support the smooth running of accounts payable, receivable, and cash management activities Prepare and post journals, accruals, and prepayments as part of the month-end process Assist with audit preparation and help maintain strong financial controls and compliance What you will need A solid educational foundation, including GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English Currently studying towards, or keen to begin, a professional qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, or ACA A genuine interest in building a long-term career in finance, ideally within a fast-paced FMCG environment Self-motivated, proactive, and eager to take ownership of your work A keen eye for detail, with strong organisational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively Naturally analytical, with the ability to investigate and solve problems Comfortable working in a deadline-driven environment Confident using Microsoft Excel, with exposure to accounting or ERP systems being an advantage Interested in finding out more?
