Job Description
This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer with knowledge of high, medium, low and extra‑low voltage electrical systems and equipment to join the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team as a Senior Electrical Engineer. Expertise relating to control systems design and SCADA/telemetry systems would be beneficial.
Responsibilities
* Work within the Standards, Asset Management and Engineering Directorate to influence and shape our service delivery.
* Provide technical engineering leadership and support to the organization to meet objectives of safe, reliable and sustainable assets and net zero carbon commitments.
* Manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, including safety rules for high‑voltage and low‑voltage power systems and control systems in assets such as pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures.
* Develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for employees working on electrical systems and equipment.
* Hold a national incident response role (may be within normal working hours or out of hours).

Team
You will join the MEICA Engineering Standards team within Standards and Engineering, part of the Standards, Asset Management and Engineering department, within the Flood and Coastal Risk Management Directorate.
Experience & Skills Required
* Good working knowledge of Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
* Good working knowledge of control systems, including application of IEC 61508, IEC 62061 and BS EN 13489, and telemetry/SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Experience in development and delivery of safe systems of work, risk assessments and method statements.
* Testing and isolation of high and low voltage electrical systems and proving dead.
* Strong understanding of risk‑based approach to electrical maintenance philosophies, including FMEA, reliability systems and processes.
* Drafting and publishing of electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent work management, teamwork and communication skills.
* Current UK driving licence.
* Current membership of a recognised engineering institution and registration as a Chartered Engineer with the UK Engineering Council, or evidence of working toward registration within 12 months.
