Band 5 Rotational Speech & Language Therapist – Adult Acute Wards / Stroke
The Speech & Language Therapy team at Southend Hospital have a long history of developing Band 5 therapists into confident, effective, and skilled practitioners.
We offer the opportunity to build on university learning and first posts as you complete your NQT competencies, with proactive training and supervision in dysphagia management and exposure to FEES and videofluoroscopy observation.
Our team works across acute and stroke wards to provide excellent patient intervention within the acute phase, with good links to community colleagues ensuring seamless care for patients requiring post‑discharge services.
Responsibilities
* Develop skills with an adult acute caseload in communication and dysphagia assessment and management
* Develop all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner
* Attend clinical supervision, including face‑to‑face meetings, clinical reasoning sessions, peer review, and team case discussions
* Provide supervision and education of Speech & Language Therapy Assistants and students
* Undertake evidence‑based audit and research projects to enhance the team’s practice
* Participate in clinical audit, protocol development, objective‑setting, etc. as required by the development of the SALT team
