Senior Anaesthetic Practitioner
Job Summary
Providing specialist care to the patient during the perioperative period. Assisting in the day to day management of the theatres. Acts as a mentor to unqualified support staff and acts in a supervisory capacity for them. Builds professional relationships with all department users and hospital colleagues.
Delivers a streamlined service to patients and consultants in a spacious and bright facility with state‑of‑the‑art equipment. Maintains patient comfort and care, meeting rigorous standards set by the Care Quality Commission. Maximises recovery while delivering clinical services cost effectively. Provides a safe and supportive environment for patients.
Main Duties
* Contributes to the development and evaluation of practice.
* Acts as mentor to unqualified support staff and pre‑registration students.
* Participates in planning and delivery of care during the perioperative period.
* Ensures all anaesthetic equipment is checked and available before the list starts.
* Participates in the team briefing prior to the list commencing.
* Recognises the workload of colleagues and provides support as necessary.
* Ensures consumables are replaced at the end of each list.
* Ensures compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
* Considers resource implications of decisions.
* Demonstrates commitment to develop own critical analytical skills.
* Maintains a professional portfolio.
* Organises and plans own work and that of others.
* Coordinates with other departments to ensure a smooth patient pathway.
* Has awareness of dealing with conflict.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
* Registered Nurse with a recognised postgraduate qualification.
* Registered ODP with a certificate H.E. / Diploma.
* Significant post‑registration skills in the anaesthetic area.
* Ability to act as a preceptor to newly qualified staff.
Desirable
* Experience monitoring and caring for sedated patients during procedures.
* Clear communication in written and spoken English.
* Knowledge of patient confidentiality.
* Ability to produce legible notes.
* Motivated and enthusiastic.

Salary: £50,078 a year
