We are seeking a Degree Apprentice Civil Engineer to join our renewable energy civil engineering team. This role offers the opportunity to gain a fully funded civil engineering degree through Glasgow Caledonian University, alongside practical experience on live renewable infrastructure projects.\n\nThe apprentice will support the design, construction, and delivery of civil works for renewable energy developments, including foundations, access roads, drainage, substations, and site infrastructure. The role combines onâtheâjob training with partâtime academic study at Glasgow Caledonian University, allowing university learning to be applied directly to real projects.\n\nWorking with experienced engineers and multidisciplinary teams, the apprentice will help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with environmental and quality standards, while developing the skills needed for a longâterm career in the renewable energy sector. Technical & Engineering Skills\n\nPractical understanding of civil engineering principles including structural design, geotechnics, drainage, and foundations, applied to renewable projects such as wind farms, solar parks, substations, and access roads.\nExperience using engineering drawings, specifications, and BIM/CAD software to support design, construction, and maintenance activities.\nKnowledge of materials, construction methods, and quality control, ensuring work is safe, durable, and compliant with standards.\nExposure to site investigations, surveying, and data analysis to inform design and construction decisions.\n\nRenewable & SustainabilityâFocused Skills\n\nUnderstanding how civil engineering supports renewable energy generation, including environmental constraints, land use, and carbon reduction.\nAwareness of environmental impact assessments, sustainable construction practices, and regulatory requirements specific to renewables.\nDeveloping an appreciation of wholeâlife asset thinking, balancing cost, performance, and sustainability.\n\nHealth, Safety & Compliance Skills\n\nApplying health, safety, and environmental (HSE) procedures on live construction sites.\nUnderstanding industry standards, regulations, and permits, particularly those relevant to renewable infrastructure and civil works.\n\nProject & Commercial Skills\n\nSupporting project planning and delivery, including scheduling, risk assessments, and progress reporting.\nGaining insight into cost control, procurement, and contract management, helping projects remain efficient and commercially viable.\nLearning how multidisciplinary teams (civil, electrical, environmental) work together on complex renewable schemes.\n\nProfessional & Transferable Skills\n\nStrong communication skills, working with site teams, engineers, contractors, and stakeholders.\nProblemâsolving and analytical thinking, learning how to identify issues on site and contribute to practical solutions.\nTime management and organisation, balancing academic study with workplace responsibilities.\nBuilding professionalism, confidence, and accountability through realâworld engineering responsibility. A minimum of Scottish Highers / AâLevels (or equivalent), including Mathematics (and preferably Physics, Engineering, or a related subject).\nEligibility and commitment to enrol on a Civil Engineering degree apprenticeship at Glasgow Caledonian University.\nA genuine interest in civil engineering and renewable energy infrastructure.\nRight to work in the UK.\n\nPersonal Qualities and Skills\n\nStrong numeracy and problemâsolving skills, with a logical and analytical approach.\nEnthusiasm for learning and professional development, with the ability to balance work and academic study.\nGood communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.\nA proactive attitude with a willingness to take responsibility and ask questions.\nAwareness of health, safety, and environmental responsibility in a construction or engineering environment.\nOrganised, reliable, and motivated, with a keen interest in sustainability and renewable energy.
