Commercial Food & Safety Officer
Grade: Practitioner Grade 4
Pay: £55 per hour (paid weekly)
Contract Type: Contract - Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm
Location: Cornwall
The Commercial Food & Safety Team safeguards public health and supports businesses in maintaining high standards of food hygiene and safety through effective guidance, training, and enforcement.
About the Role:
As a Commercial Food & Safety Officer, you will oversee compliance with legislation, lead and mentor colleagues, and ensure high-quality, customer-focused service delivery. You’ll process food and safety interventions, handle technical and enforcement work, and collaborate with key partners such as the HSE, UKHSA, and FSA.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Ensure compliance with food and health & safety legislation and best practice.
2. Coach and develop colleagues and partners to build confidence and competence.
3. Manage inspections, complaints, enforcement, and export certification.
4. Provide expert advice and lead projects improving service delivery.
5. Promote best practice and deliver educational and compliance initiatives.
Essential Requirements:
6. Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field.
7. Competence to undertake food safety interventions under the Food Law Code of Practice and/or act as an inspector under the Health & Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
8. Strong knowledge of legislation, enforcement, and food hygiene standards.
9. Excellent communication, analytical, and mentoring skills.
