Children’s Support Worker
Location: Southampton (Full-time, part-time and flexible shifts available)Hours: Flexible shift patterns available, including days, evenings, nights and sleep-insRate: £14.24 – £16.50 per hour (includes holiday pay)
About the Role
We are recruiting Children’s Support Workers to join services across Southampton. These roles are essential in supporting children and young people with a range of needs, including emotional and behavioural challenges, to live safely and thrive.
You will play a key role in providing a safe, nurturing and structured environment where young people feel supported, valued and encouraged to reach their full potential. The role involves a mixture of emotional support, practical care and structured interventions within residential or at times community-based settings.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide high-quality, person-centred and trauma informed support to children and young people.• Promote a safe, stable and nurturing environment within residential or supported settings.• Build positive, trusting relationships with young people to support emotional wellbeing.• Assist with daily routines, including education, activities, appointments and life skills.• Manage and respond to challenging behaviours using de-escalation techniques.• Support the development of independence, confidence and social skills.• Maintain accurate records, incident reports and safeguarding documentation.• Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, social workers and other professionals.• Uphold safeguarding, health & safety and confidentiality standards at all times.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:• Experience working with children, young people or vulnerable individuals.• Ability to build positive relationships and maintain professional boundaries.• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.• Calm, resilient and adaptable approach when managing challenging situations.• Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles.• Willingness to undertake relevant training and qualifications such as NVQs.
Desirable:• Previous experience within children’s residential care or support services.• Knowledge of trauma-informed care, SEMH, or behavioural support approaches.• Relevant qualification (e.g. Level 3 Children & Young People, Health & Social Care).• Experience working with children with additional needs, including mental health or SEND.• Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings and weekends.
