Offer description

Write a short description of your company, a boilerplate of the business, service or product that you offer. Include your business idea and the target audience. This text is primarily supposed to be descriptive, not selling.

A well-established and improving 11–18 secondary school in Newcastle is seeking a passionate and reflective Early Career Teacher of Modern Foreign Languages to join its vibrant MFL department. This is an outstanding opportunity for a newly qualified teacher to develop their practice within a structured, supportive and academically ambitious school environment.

Serving a diverse Newcastle community, the school is recognised for its clear behaviour systems, strong pastoral care and growing academic outcomes. Languages are a valued part of the curriculum, with healthy uptake at GCSE and an expanding Sixth Form pathway.

The Role

This post is suitable for an ECT specialising in French, Spanish or German (or a combination). You will teach across Key Stages 3 and 4, with opportunities to observe and gradually contribute to KS5 teaching as your confidence develops.

Your responsibilities will include:
• Delivering engaging, structured language lessons
• Supporting students in developing confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing
• Following a carefully sequenced and vocabulary-rich curriculum
• Contributing to GCSE exam preparation and intervention
• Participating in departmental planning and professional development

The MFL curriculum emphasises fluency, retrieval practice and cultural awareness. Lessons are designed to build secure grammatical understanding alongside communicative competence.

ECT Induction & Support

This Newcastle secondary is experienced in developing Early Career Teachers and provides a structured induction programme.

You will benefit from:
• A reduced timetable in line with ECT entitlement
• A dedicated MFL subject mentor
• Weekly instructional coaching sessions
• Regular observation and feedback cycles
• Whole-school CPD focused on behaviour, modelling and assessment

Shared planning resources and centralised schemes of learning ensure consistency and reduce unnecessary workload.

-----------------------------------

The Department

The MFL department is collaborative and forward-thinking. Teachers meet weekly to refine curriculum sequencing, share assessment strategies and support exam classes.

Department strengths include:
• Dedicated language classrooms with interactive technology
• Strong emphasis on retrieval and spaced practice
• Cultural enrichment activities and language clubs
• Opportunities for exchanges or virtual international partnerships
• Growing GCSE uptake and improving outcomes

The department works closely with literacy leads to strengthen vocabulary development and structured writing across year groups.

-----------------------------------

The School Environment

The school operates within clear and consistent behaviour systems, creating calm and purposeful classrooms. Leadership is visible and accessible, with a focus on supporting staff development and wellbeing.

Facilities have been upgraded in recent years, including improved classroom technology and communal learning spaces. Pastoral systems are strong, ensuring students receive appropriate academic and emotional support.

Who We’re Looking For

The successful candidate will:
• Hold (or be on track to achieve) QTS in Modern Foreign Languages
• Demonstrate strong subject knowledge and enthusiasm for languages
• Be reflective and receptive to coaching
• Maintain high expectations for student progress
• Be eager to contribute to enrichment and cultural initiatives

This is an ideal role for a Languages ECT seeking a structured and supportive first post in a Newcastle secondary school committed to academic growth and cultural engagement.

What’s On Offer

• Full ECT induction programme
