Your impact
As a Design Director at Jacobs, you’ll be at the forefront of delivering one of the UK’s most significant water infrastructure investments. You’ll lead the design strategy for high-profile programmes starting with the Salford Wastewater Treatment Works ensuring engineering excellence from concept through to commissioning.
You’ll be accountable for the success of multidisciplinary design teams, driving innovation, technical standards, and integration across project phases. Your leadership will directly influence environmental outcomes, community value, and long-term sustainability.
This role offers a unique blend of strategic oversight and hands-on collaboration. You’ll work closely with construction teams on-site in Salford, while also engaging with design offices in Manchester, Warrington, Glasgow, Belfast, and Krakow. Visibility, approachability, and technical authority are key to your success.

Responsibilities
* Showing exemplary behaviour in personal and team health, safety and wellbeing management in accordance with our BeyondZero approach
* Being a primary contact for our clients, effectively managing stakeholders, delivering client satisfaction, and dealing with escalations as they arise
* Building and growing our teams, through our office leads, delivery leads and design managers, driving recruitment and resourcing supporting growth
* Bringing innovation to the function, reaching back into our extensive organisation, identifying and deploying our capability to maximise client value
* Taking accountability and ownership for time, cost and quality of project outcomes
* Continue to develop our relationship-based growth model, by fostering relationships with our existing water Clients
Qualifications
* This strategic role requires the candidate to be a Chartered Engineer, with extensive experience working within the Water & Wastewater industry specifically.
* The candidate will possess extensive knowledge skills and experience of multidiscipline engineering fields, design and construction
* Proven capability in Project Management & Design Management on large capital investment non-infrastructure projects and managing projects and programmes through implementation, outline and detailed design phases.
