Job Title: Human Resources Assistant (Maternity Cover) 1 year fixed term contract
Responsible to: Finance Director
Location: Head Office, Haddington
Hours: 4 days per week or 28hrs per week – Operational hours are between 8am – 5pm Monday to Friday

Thomas Sherriff & Co Ltd are suppliers of farm machinery and groundcare equipment throughout Lothians, Scottish Borders, and Northumberland.
We have 8 outlets in this area with circa 140 employees.
Job purpose
This job is a fixed term contract for 1 year covering maternity leave, with an expected start date of January 2026.
In this standalone role you will be required to provide administrative support across all areas of the HR function as and where required to enable the Company to achieve its overall business objectives.
Travelling to the outlets will be a requirement of this role.
Main duties and responsibilities
* Be 1st point of contact via email, telephone and face-to-face for all HR queries
* Ensure HR files and the HRIS is up-to-date and accurate
* Oversee the onboarding and off boarding of employees
* Oversee attendance, review attendance levels and follow up on any associated paperwork.
* Monitor and oversee the probation review process
* Advise employees and managers on HR queries based on policy, escalating these as required to our external HR Resource
* Assist with any project work
* Act as secondary Payroll support as necessary
Experience
* In possession of a HR Qualification (minimum level 3 accredited HR qualification or equivalent)
* Competent with Microsoft office
* Experience of working in a busy administrative role with the ability to prioritise tasks.
