Do you want to be part of an innovative, dynamic organisation that is committed to delivering the best care by the best people? We are looking to appoint people who are as passionate about high quality care as we are.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for innovative, enthusiastic and highly motivated qualified social workers to join our Specialist Mental Health Team in Birmingham on a permanent basis.

You will undertake social work tasks as part of our constituency teams and will be expected to undertake Approved Mental Health Professional Training within 2 years of qualification (to be agreed) and will eventually contribute to our Mental Health Act HUB undertaking Mental Health Act assessments across and on behalf of Birmingham City Council. As a social worker, you will fulfil the statutory duties of the Local Authority working with our most vulnerable citizens, whilst adhering to the relevant legislation, policies and procedures working alongside Senior Practitioner AMHPs, Team Manager AMHPs, Social Care Practitioners and a range of key partners.

The posts will be based in our Specialist Mental Health Team which covers the whole of the Birmingham area, and the post holders will be able to express a preference for either North or South of the City. Regular supervision will be offered, and where social workers meet the criteria, they may be offered to join via our Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) programme.

These posts are eligible for a £1000 recruitment payment and a £5000 retention payment.

Birmingham City Council's specialist mental health team is well-established and is seeking to increase the number of qualified social workers within the mental health specialism. This is an exciting opportunity to develop the delivery of community mental health care.

We are looking for enthusiastic and flexible candidates who demonstrate leadership abilities and are committed to working in a multidisciplinary setting.

You should be suitably qualified and registered with Social Work England and preferably experienced in mental health social work or able to demonstrate an enthusiasm for this area of work either through lived experience or previous roles.

For further information or to discuss the role in more detail please contact Joanne Lowe at joanne.e.lowe@birmingham.gov.uk and AMHP Manager Jenny Webb at jenny.webb@birmingham.gov.uk.

You must upload a Supporting Statement via the attachments part of your application. This is required for shortlisting; you need to describe how your experience and skills fit the essential criteria for the role as specified in the Person Specification. If you do not attach your Supporting Statement, your application will not be considered.

Ref: BCC1898

We welcome applications from people with caring responsibilities and flexible working options will be considered.

A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be undertaken.

Proof of Right to work in the UK will be required for all applicants in accordance with UK Home Office requirements, before any employment offer can be confirmed.
