Effective regulation is essential to protect people and the environment from emissions, mitigate climate change impacts, and support sustainable transition.
We are recruiting for a fixed‑term role, up to 2 years, for an individual with experience in regulating energy sectors, including combustion plants, waste incineration, and refineries. The role will support the Energy & COMAH team within the Energy and Manufacturing Industries Regulation Directorate.

 * Develop strategy for the energy sectors and produce tools to regulate, support development, and deliver environmental outcomes.
 * Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
 * Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations, and other key industry players.
Incident Response
You will be asked to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.
Team
The Energy & COMAH team, part of the Energy and Manufacturing Industries Regulation Directorate, lead on the definition of standards for our sectors. We provide strategic direction, tools to support regulation of energy sectors, guidance and training to deliver new duties, and environmental best practice.
Experience / Skills Required
 * Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, actively encouraging consideration of diversity issues.
 * Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, and experience of the work area for the role, including knowledge of control measures for emissions to air where relevant.
