As Lead Nurse for Oncology and Acute Medicine, you’ll take on a pivotal leadership role at Cromwell Hospital, directly responsible for the day-to-day operational, clinical, and professional management of our inpatient and day case Oncology services, Renal Dialysis, Acute & General Medicine, and GI Endoscopy.
You will play a critical role in ensuring that care pathways are joined up across the hospital and associated outpatient centres. As the professional nursing lead for these services, you will help shape and influence the development of speciality pathways while supporting safe, evidence‑based, person‑centred care.
This is an influential position within our nursing leadership team—central to delivering Cromwell Hospital’s strategy. You’ll advance improvement across quality, patient experience, financial efficiency, and leadership development, acting as a compassionate clinical role model for teams across Oncology and Acute Medicine.
How you’ll help us make health happen
1. Provide strong, visible clinical leadership across Oncology and Acute Medicine, inspiring teams and promoting best practice.
2. Ensure high standards of care are delivered and monitored in line with regulatory and professional requirements.
3. Lead clinical governance, audits, and compliance with CQC and other statutory frameworks.
4. Drive improvements in patient experience, clinical quality, operational efficiency and pathway development.
5. Collaborate with consultants and multidisciplinary teams to enhance services and develop new procedures and protocols.
6. Promote evidence‑based practice, innovation, and a strong learning culture.
7. Mentor and develop senior nurses, strengthening leadership capability and succession planning.
8. Manage resources effectively, ensuring safe staffing, strong financial stewardship, and efficient service delivery.
9. Maintain strong consultant relationships and ensure services meet agreed clinical standards.
Key Skills / Qualifications
Essential
10. Active NMC Registration as an Adult Nurse.
11. Teaching/assessing qualification.
12. Management qualification or equivalent experience.
13. ILS certification.
14. Substantial clinical experience within an acute setting, with strong Oncology/Acute Medicine knowledge.
15. Demonstrated experience leading change and driving innovation in practice.
16. Experience in clinical governance, audit, benchmarking and complaints management.
17. Strong financial awareness and experience in resource management.
18. Evidence of professional leadership and continuous professional development.
Desirable
19. Diploma in Management Studies or equivalent.
20. ALS certification.
21. Previous experience within oncology or the specific specialties listed.
