Job Description:
The Role
We are seeking a dedicated and innovative Research Fellow to join Kingston University on a collaborative research project focused on Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) of bridge structures. The project involves deploying optical fibre sensor technologies for real-time evaluation of bridge integrity and performance. The successful candidate will work closely with academic and industry partners to implement sensing methods and analyze data from these systems.
Key responsibilities include designing and executing research, contributing to future research development, and disseminating results through publications and conferences. The role involves fieldwork and occasional travel to survey sites.
The Person
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Civil & Structural Engineering, NDT, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Optical Sensing, Physics, or a related field. Experience in sensors for bridges, data analysis using tools like MATLAB and Python, and hands-on experience with optical fibres, FBG sensors, and accelerometers are desirable.
The candidate should be motivated, analytical, a problem-solver, and able to work independently and in a team. Priority will be given to applicants based in the UK and EU due to project urgency.
The Faculty
The Faculty of Engineering, Computing & the Environment (ECE) offers diverse research and teaching across multiple disciplines, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities including laboratories, virtual reality centres, and specialised labs for electric, electronic, and robotics research.
