Job Title: Full-time Band 5 Waiting List & Admin Manager (Ophthalmology Service)

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff across various clinical and non-clinical roles. We provide acute hospital, primary, community, and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million, expanding to 2.2 million with regional and national services.

This is a permanent, full-time position with a shift pattern from Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00.


About the Role

NHSGGC, South Sector Directorate, offers an exciting opportunity for a Full-time Band 5 Waiting List & Admin Manager within the Ophthalmology Service. The service operates across 8 hospital sites, handling over 2,000 new referrals monthly, supported by 40 consultants, optometrists, orthoptists, and nursing staff. The post reports to the Ophthalmology Service Support Manager. Key responsibilities include:

1. Managing staff including medical secretaries, audio typists, and coordinators.
2. Managing waiting lists and times to ensure compliance with procedures, guarantees, and targets aligned with 'New Ways' and the Patients’ Rights Act.
3. Managing clinic and theatre capacity to meet clinical priorities and waiting time targets through effective resource utilization.


Requirements

* Minimum of 3 years’ experience within an NHS administrative setting.
* Detailed knowledge of NHS waiting list procedures and medical records secretarial practices.
* Experience in managing and supervising staff, with skills in organizing, motivating, and developing teams (desirable).
* Ability to work independently and under pressure, making decisions and handling multiple tasks across different timescales.
