Junior Technical Safety Engineer
Our client, a leading independent Oil & Gas operator, are currently seeking a Junior Technical Safety Engineer to join their QSSHE team located in Norwich. This role is based in the Norwich office and operates Monday to Friday.
Qualifications
* Higher technical qualification in engineering fields such as Process Safety, Chemical, or Mechanical.
* Desirable to be Chartered in Mechanical or Chemical/Process Engineering.
Experience
* 2–5 years of experience in Safety Engineering within the Oil & Gas industry.
* Experience in both design and operation is desirable.
* Proficiency with MS Office (Word/Excel mandatory) and safety software such as PHAST and PHA-Pro.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out competent in‑house safety studies in support of operations and projects.
* Chair and facilitate safety studies such as Total Risk Management, HAZID, Bowtie, and ALARP.
* Develop Barrier Diagrams (Bowties) and perform consequence modelling using DNV GL PHAST or Gexcon FLACS.
* Conduct hydraulics analysis on firewater systems using Pipenet.
* Perform Mini Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA), including Event and Fault Tree development.
* Execute hazardous area classification, fire and explosion risk assessment, smoke and gas ingress analysis, and escape, evacuation, and rescue assessment.
* Prepare occupied building risk assessments, firewater system design upgrades, and safety case material change assessments.
* Develop scopes of requirements, commission, manage, and review technical safety studies from contractors, covering QRA, cost‑benefit analysis, and safety‑critical system impairment assessment.
* Provide safety engineering support for asset modification proposals, identify required safety studies, and engage with operations and projects to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry codes of practice.
* Coach, guide, and advise operations, engineering, and support teams on compliance with legislation such as COMAH, OSDR/SCR, PFEER, DSEAR, DCR, PSR, and PSSR.
* Maintain awareness of changes to HSE legislations, codes, guidelines and industry standards, interpreting these changes and assisting in the development of actions to meet such requirements.
* Develop philosophies, strategies, procedures and guidelines for implementing above requirements.
* Support the team to meet Safety Case Regulations (SCR) and COMAH Regulations, maintaining documentation and contributing to periodic reviews.
* Identify opportunities and efficiencies to improve overall safety standards and performance across SNS Operations.
About the role
This position is responsible for delivering safety engineering support to the SNS operation and projects, ensuring compliance with UK QSHE legislation, codes of practice, guidelines, industry standards and best practice.
