Job Description
The Procurement and Supply Chain Management function is responsible for interfacing with third-party organizations supporting our business, whether for procurement of goods and services or relationship management. They support project delivery teams across our key sectors to ensure strategic objectives are achieved.
The role of the Procurement and Supply Chain Manager is to lead project subcontract procurement, advise project stakeholders, manage post-contract supply chain activities, and develop/deploy category strategies for group business needs. Operating within the Water sector Procurement and Supply Chain team, you will work closely with project leads, the Sector Head of P&SC, and the wider management team to ensure the sector P&SC strategy is effectively implemented, balancing operational and strategic goals.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to impact the sector positively by driving efficiency, sustainability, and innovation within the procurement and supply chain function.
This is a Hybrid role based in Newcastle and Durham offices, working 2-3 days per week.
Responsibilities
Deliver procurement (pre-contract) and supply chain management (post-contract) across the sector, providing direction and support, collaborating with pre-construction estimating and post-award commercial teams.
Utilize procurement processes to enable Early Contractor Involvement (ECI), guiding decision-making on design maturity, commercial tension, benefits pipeline, resource allocation, and governance.
Manage project procurement activities to ensure best-in-class outcomes, meeting project milestones while maintaining forecast accuracy and robust supply chains.
Drive Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives, including local SME engagement, social impact, and Net Zero goals.
Promote collaboration and innovation within the supply chain, leveraging ISO44001 or P13 principles.
Develop relationships with internal stakeholders and external clients’ supply chain teams to maximize stakeholder engagement and value.
Implement operational procurement practices to minimize costs and preserve project margins.
Manage supply chain performance, including addressing underperformance and sharing lessons learned.
Essential Qualifications
Significant experience in a similar role.
Enthusiasm for driving procurement best practice improvements.
Strong emotional intelligence and stakeholder engagement skills.
Extensive knowledge of supply chain management and procurement, especially in construction.
Experience with collaborative working and innovation implementation.
Operational procurement skills relevant to construction projects.
Knowledge of sustainable procurement standards (ISO20400) and basic carbon literacy.
Experience leading supply chain engagement and negotiations.
Proven ability to develop and implement ESG policies with supply bases.
Familiarity with NEC contracts.
Proactive, flexible, results-oriented, and adaptable to team or independent work.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and strong data analysis skills.
Member of Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (minimum Level 5).
Desirable Qualifications
Experience negotiating modified NEC3/NEC4 subcontracts for favorable outcomes.
Knowledge of Framework projects and procurement practices.
Expertise in ISO20400 and delivering tangible sustainability outcomes.
Experience with ISO 44001 or Project 13 principles from concept to delivery.
