HSE Advisor (Branch Support)
This role is a 12 month fixed term contract covering branches in/around South Wales and the West of England
This role is responsible for providing front-line Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) support to Branch Managers and Regional Directors, acting as a trusted advisor to ensure compliance with company policies and statutory requirements while driving a strong safety culture across the business. The position oversees Group and statutory Health & Safety reporting, leads Lost Time Injury (LTI) investigations with thorough root cause analysis and corrective action follow-up, manages HSE-related cases to resolution, and delivers the second line of defence audit programme to provide assurance, identify risks, and recommend improvements. Through these activities, the role plays a critical part in safeguarding employees, reducing operational risks, and enabling the organisation to meet its commitment to health, safety, and sustainability.
Principal Accountabilities
1. Undertake HSE Branch Reviews (2nd line of Defence Audits) in line with business risk profile.
2. Support Branch Managers in resolving HSE related queries and problems.
3. Deliver HSE related training in line with the business HSE plan or as a result of a specific training need identified.
4. Manage the Lost Time Incident verification and investigation process supporting line managers ensuring that the Just Culture principles are correctly applied.
5. Working with HR, support line managers with the Return to Work process for colleagues off as a result of a lost time incident, ensuring robust plans are in place to help them return to a normal way of life as quickly as possible.
6. Complete all RIDDOR reporting requirements for your region.
7. Review the various HSE Data streams for your region eg near misses, self assessment returns to determine quality insights that you can use to help support Branch Managers and Regional Directors reduce risk; supporting Branch Managers to resolve potentially significant / sense near misses.
8. Develop and maintain relationships with Branch Managers and members of colleague-led HSE and driver forums in your region so that they can constructively feedback and input to the Forum.
What you’ll need to have/be:
9. NEBOSH General Certificate
10. TechIOSH status
11. 18 months post qualification experience in medium risk business
12. Experience of safety culture and behavioural change programmes
13. Excellent communicator
14. Able to train and effectively represent at both Regional Director and Front Line levels
15. Pragmatic in approach and solutions generated
16. Full legal and technical understanding of H&S
17. Strong influencer
