Location United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Newcastle up Tyne Newcastle upon Tyne Remote vs. Office Office/Site only Company Siemens Energy Limited Organization Gas Services Business Unit Service Europe & Africa Full / Part time Full-time Experience Level Experienced Professional A Snapshot of Your DayThe Operations Engineer is responsible for supporting all aspects of operation, maintenance and engineering activities related to the O&M & LTSA contracts at Hirwaun, Progress and Millbrook OCGT power plants. The role requires a suitable level of engineering and technical knowledge with the aim of providing safe and reliable operation of plant and equipment to meet the Client’s operational and commercial requirements.The role will require a degree of flexibility, primarily covering remote control room activities on a shift working basis however may require providing support to the project site locations.How You’ll Make an Impact
1. Responsible for monitoring and control of the plant operation on a continuous basis (24/7/365) such as plant shutdown and start-up, responding to alarms by taking appropriate the actions in a timely manner, BOA activity, National Grid instructions and daily plant operation. Maintaining and updating the Daily Operational Log.
2. Health, Safety and Environmental compliance, performing all work in compliance with applicable codes, standards, safety and environment.
3. Plant availability, compliance with O&M procedures, work plans and engineering procedures.
4. Execute plant shutdown and start-up procedures as required within the allocated timeframe, ensuring that the plant meets its generating requirements whilst operating in a safe and efficient manner.
5. Adherence to processes and procedures to enable efficient plant operation, including utilisation of technical documentation and drawings.
6. Ensure that the plant meets its generating requirements whilst operating in a safe and efficient manner.
7. Utilize computerized Plant & Asset Management System for Shift Log reporting, Fault Notification, Work Order and Work Plan Module management.
8. Liaison with customer and external parties for supply and distribution of power and gas.
9. Respond to National Grid and Trader routine and safety instructions.
10. Submission of REMIT, EDL & EDT information to accurately reflect the technical availability and remain in compliance with legislative governance.
11. Carry out T3000 logic modifications and implement simulations to ensure plant safety and reliability is maintained working within the guidelines of the company’s IBMS and quality systems.
12. Support the development and implementation of Siemens Energy Asset Care Programme including all associated processes and procedures (Asset Criticality Assessment, Data Engineering and CBM Concepts).
13. Support and assist with the production of and continuous development of operational excellence strategies and concepts to ensure alignment with Siemens Energy and the client’s business objectives.
14. Support Root Cause Analysis and Failure Mode Effects Analysis processes into site occurrences and incidents as required.
15. Deputise for the Senior Operations Engineer in their absence.
What You Bring
16. Sound practical engineering and technical knowledge including applying principles, techniques, processes and procedures to achieve the safe operation and maintenance of the power station.
17. Power Generation / Heavy Industry operational experience.
18. Awareness and understanding of Health and Safety practices.
19. Self-motivated with ability to effectively prioritise workload.
20. Advanced Problem-solving skills
21. Good oral, written and interpersonal skills
22. Ability to effectively and efficiently record and report plant relevant and critical information and statuses.
23. Willingness to travel 10% of the time in the UK, Ireland and/or Germany.
